I'm back

I'm back from my vacations in the Algarve with my two men.
And I have to up-date the side-bar. It's not 33 anymore, now it's 34.
I still have one week at home before I go back to work.
Let's see if I have the time to do something else.

Frustration is...

Having all the blouse sewed and noticed that one of the sleeves was sewed on the outside out.

I was so angry with my distraccion....

It's in times loke this that I think that sewing is not for me. And then I think of giving up and start a new project.

I swear that when it happened, all I wanted to do was start a new one and never look at that again.

I even started unsewing the sleeve in order to sew it right, but I was so angry that I decided to put thing away.

I wne to give milk to my son and play with him. To relax...

Change

I havve changed the blog's template. The other one was prettier, but the pictures look smuged. That is, the colors look more paled than they really are.

Now it gets "brighter"

Challenge

I have just entered the blog universe of sewing and I have been already challenged.

Ana Carina has challenged me, in order to know me better.
Here we go.

What was I doing 10 years ago?
I was finishing university. I was going to have my deserved vacations and start my adventure in the working market.

Five things on my to do list:
One of them is taking my driving license (it has to be this year, for sure), the other is taking my son to Eurodisney, loose weight (one day maybe), and mainly be happy.

Food I like:
Hummmm. Don't even remind me. Snails, shrimps, etc.

Things I would do if I were a multimilionaire:
I would buy a bigger house in the center of Lisbon, my city. I would have couple of children. Travel with my son and husband. I probably would give something to my family. And maybe I would do a plastic to take the excess.

Places I lived:
As my dad was a pilot in the Air Force, he was place in several Air Force bases. When I was born we lived in Vieria de Leiria, near the base of Monterreal. Then when I was 1 year an half, we moved to Madeira until I was 2 years old. After we moved to the Azores. When I was 4 years old, we moved to Lisbon, where I lived until I bought my home with my husbanda, at the time my boyfrined, in Lisbon's surroundings.

Jobs I had:
When I finished university, I worked as a Secretary in a Lawyer's Office for 2 years and an half. Then I work for 6 years in a fashion company, as a Customer Assistante, being my Clients the owners of the stores of a Lingerie brand. For more than 6 months I've been working as Retail Assistante of one of the most known sports brand. And I love what I do!

I hope you enjoyed knowing me better.

Bias

It is really obvious that I'm a rookie in these type of things. But i'm not going to give up so easily.

After I sewn all the blouse, I talked with my mother. She has also a sewing machine and more experience than I do. About 30 years ago, buying clothes was a luxury. And plus we were twins, so every garment had to be double.
So, she would buy the fabrics and Burda magazines and she would do our clothes. (my sister and mine).

So, just to say that on the phone she was talking about the armholes and the neckline and that I had to do the bias hem... or whatever that means...
Saturday, she was here at my house, for my son's 3rd birthday. I showed her the blouse.
She asked me: "do you want me to fix it?"
And I replied: "No, I want to do it on my own. If I wanted it for you to do it, I would give you the fabric. I want to learn how to do this."
I understand that I'm going to have a lot of setbacks along the way, and the the first experiences will look like high-school craft classes, but I believe that after a couple of setbacks, I will get it and start doing some nice blouses for me.
She then explained me how I had to sew the blouse. The neckline turning out was not good. She taught me how to do the bias hem. Understood!
Yesterday, I took the holiday and while my son was taking his nap, I did it. It is already basted. Now there is only missing the armholes.
My will to do this right is a lot... Really a lot...

Sewing

I confess that I'm not a very patiente person. I want things done very quickly and when that doesn't happen, I loose my patience and I get frustrated.
That what happened when I decided to assemble the sewing machine to start sewing the top.
Here it is, the "crime weapon". I was not able to do the side openings at first, and it got really messy. Took a deep breath and undid it and did it again. It didn't get perfect, but so and so. I have sewn all the blouse and, even so, I have to do some final touches. Some stitches that were missing. As soon as I have the top really finished and ironed, I will take some photos and post it here.
Here the little one got tired of watching cartoons and decided to make me company.

I have decided that...

I have to undo all the basting and cut the pieces of the fabric smaller than I did.
I thought that size 44 would be small, but I was totally wrong. Sometimes I feel that I am not going to make it.
Other times I thing I was too ambitious in chooosing such top and that fabric as my first project.
I have to be persistent and try again. Or I'll put it away and start a new project, less ambitious and simpler?! I don't know, a straight sleeveless top?
Hummmmm...

But...

What I really wanted was a "toy" like this.
It would help me so much and I would not have to baste on my knees...
